Windows XP: Remove Windows Messenger

Yeah, you can remove it using the “Add/Remove Windows Features” section of the “Add/Remove Programs” control panel.  But it’s still there.  Sometimes, you notice it running in the system notification area, while you are running Outlook Express or while you are logged into the Hotmail web site.

To completely remove Windows Messenger from your computer, all you have to do is run this command (from the command prompt or from Start -> Run):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

A box with a progress bar will pop up and quickly go away.  That’s it!  No more Windows Messenger on your PC.
